Als ich in der aktuellen Winterausgabe von Knitty das hier gesehen habe, war ich einfach nur hin und weg.

Malabrigo in Hellgrün bestellen und über die Weihnachtsfeiertage auf die Lieferung warten? Keine Zeit, also ab und den Wollvorrat durchsucht. Ausgegraben: Wolle in dunklem Limonengrün – muss passen. Sieht zumindest aus wie etwas, das man der Familie der Zitronengewächse zuordnen kann.

Die Wolle war nicht ganz billig – dafür ist die Farbqualität eher mau. Färbt ab und verleiht meinen Fingern beim Stricken ein zombie-grünes Aussehen. Hm. Nicht gut   .

Nachdem ich 3/4 der Shawlette gestrickt hatte, stellte ich ausserdem fest, dass mir der Faltenwurf ganz und gar nicht gefällt.

Also alles wieder aufgeribbelt und die Wolle für ein anderes Projekt irgendwann wieder dem Woll-Vorrat überantwortet (ich hoffe, das mit dem Abfärben gibt sich nach der 1 . Wäsche).

Also ausnahmsweise die Original-Wolle Malabrigo Lace geordert (hätte ich mal besser gleich gemacht) und neu losgelegt mit insgesamt 3 Änderungen:

• I Cord Rand statt 3 Maschen kraus rechts
• abgekettet mit Häkelkante  (weil ich WUSSTE, dass ich nie im Leben einen wirklich lockeren gestrickten Abkettrand hinbekommen würde. * 1 Häkelmasche, 1 Luftmasche * zwischen den Sternchen wiederholen bis alle Maschen aufgebraucht sind
• 6 Bänder statt 5 weil ich das Gefühl hatte, die Wolle gibt es her – tat sie – gerade mal so eben, 1,5 m sind übrig, das war knapp 

Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob die I Cord die beste Lösung für die Kante war, aber der Häkelabschluss kommt wunderbar. Reichlich rüschig, aber gefällt mir. 90 cm breit, 31 cm tief.

Und das war mein erstes UND LETZTES Projekt mit Lace Garn zu 800 m / 100 gr. Ist zwar ein schöner Effekt aber einfach zu fiddelig um die Arbeit wirklich wert zu sein. In Zukunft nehm ich maximal Sockengarn mit 400 m / 100 gr. Abgesehen natürlich von dem Zeug, das sich schon in meinem Stash befindet natürlich

When I saw this pattern in the new winter edition of Knitty I just had to knit it.

No time to order the Malbrigo yarn in light green (especially as I would have had to wait out the X-mas holidays for delivery), off to the shash instead, searching and found some wool in dark lime green. It would have to do. Seems close enough for the citrus family.

Considering that the yarn was not cheap the quality of the dye is rather bad. It rubs off while knitting and gives  my fingers a zombie-green tinge.  Hm. Not good .

After I had knitted about three quarters of the Shawlette, I noticed that I did not like the drape.

So I ripped the whole thing and put the wool back into the stash for another project sometime in the future (I hope the bleeding of the dye will stop after the first washing).

So I ordered the original Malabrigo Lace from the pattern (would have been better to do that in the first place) and started anew with 3 modifications:

• I cord border instead of 3 stitches in garter stitch
• bound off in crochet (because I KNEW I’d never get it really loose in a knitted bind-off). * crochet into one stitch, chain one * repeat between asterixes until all stitches are gone.
• 6 sections instead of 5 because I had the feeling, there was enough yarn in the skein for that – it was – barely, just about 1.6 yards / 1.5 m left. Whew, that was a close one

I’m not sure if the I cord was the best of ideas but the crochet bind off works wonderfully. Rather very ruffly, but that’s ok with me. 90 cm / 35.4 in wide, 31 cm / 12.2 in deep.

Oh, and that was my fist AND LAST project with such fine lace yarn. It´s just too fiddly to be worth it. So, the finest I’m going to use in the future is sock yarn. Except for the stuff, that’s already in my stash, of course

Scheint, als ob endlich ein Ende des Winters in Sicht ist. Bisher hatten wir jede Menge hiervon:

und auch mal ein bisschen blauer Himmel

Ab nächster Woche sollen die Temperaturen wenigstens über 0 Grad steigen. Dann gibts hoffentlich statt Schneemassen und grauem Himmel mehr blauen Himmel und Schneeglöckchen.

Seems, the end of winter is near. Up to now there was a lot of snow – on the trees, in the garden, plus snowed-in deck chairs, icicles and, occasionally, a bit of blue sky. Starting with next week, the weather forecast says, temperatures will rise above 0 degrees C / 32 degrees F. Hopefully, instead of masses of snow and grey skies there will be more blue skies and snowdrops at last.

Immerhin hat es die letzten Tage etwas getaut. Die nächsten Tage soll es wieder kälter werden (aber immerhin nicht schneien).

Die ***** Meeresrauschen CD ist aber immer noch nicht aufgetaucht. Vielleicht hätte ich intensiver suchen sollen.

Um nicht völlig in die Winter-Depri abzugleiten, hier ein bisschen Erinnerung, dass es wieder besser (wärmer) werden wird:

During the last few days some snow thawed. The next days it´s supposed to freeze again but  at least no snow is predicted.

The *****  CD with the surf sounds still didn´t turn up. Maybe I should have searched for it more thoroughly.

To counter the winter depression a bit, above some reminders that there will be better (warmer) times ahead.

So langsam krieg ich einen…wie jedes Jahr um diese Zeit, aber diesmal ist es wegen dieser sch***langen Frost- und Schneeperiode noch schlimmer als sonst finde ich.

Wochenlang nur Schnee, kalt, dunkel, Dauerfrost und keine Aussicht auf Besserung lt. Wetterbericht, zumindest nicht in den nächsten zwei Wochen. Wenn´s zwischendrin mal bisschen blauen Himmel gäbe würde ich ja gar nichts sagen (na gut, zumindest nicht viel) , aber zu allem noch dieses dauernde Wintergrau, ne, es reicht so langsam.Wie meistens im Januar… Da hilft die jährliche Hyazinthenzwiebel (diesmal in schönem weiss) auch nicht mehr viel.

Ich geh jetzt einen Kaffee trinken unter Palmen im Nebenzimmer (hat sich doch gelohnt, die Fototapete wieder runterzukratzen und neu zu kleben. Und wo versteckt sich meine Meeresrauschen CD??!

It´s catching up with me… like every year at this time. This time it feels even worse than usual because of the frost and snow we had here for the last weeks in godless amounts.

Snow, cold, dark seemingly without end and no hope from the weather forecast it will get better any time soon (at least not for the coming two weeks – yeek) . If there would be a bit of blue sky in between I wouldn´t complain (at least not that much) but on top of everything else this continuing winter grey, no, I´m really fed up by now. Like most Januarys. The hyacinth bulb I get every year (this year the flower is a beautiful white) is not much good either.

I think I´ll have coffee at the palm beach right in the next room (picture above)    . It was a good idea after all to rip off the fist photo wallpaper which did not adhere to the wall properly and try all over agin with a second. Crazy work – but worth it! And where did I put that CD with the surf sounds??!

Ah, Terry Pratchett – oder Pterry – und seine Fans…

Man kennt ja Nanny Oggs Vorliebe für das Igellied und “Des Zauberers Stab hat einen Knauf am Ende”. Aber wie  lauten denn nun die Texte, die Pterry mit voller Absicht  nicht niedergeschrieben hat. Immerhin weiss man, dass Granny eine ausgeprägte Abneigung dagegen hat, wie z.B. auch gegen alle Lieder, in denen so unschuldige Dinge wie Maibäume vorkommen

Nun, die Fans lassen sich von so Kleinigkeiten nicht aufhalten und so gibt es inzwischen diverse (diwerse?) Quellen im Netz, in denen von Fans entworfene Texte und teilweise auch Vertonungen dieser Lieder zu finden sind.

Ein Wort zur WARNUNG: Die Texte sind in Englisch und doppel- bis eindeutig (vor allem das Igellied).  Wer damit nicht klarkommt, sollte die links auf alle Fälle ignorieren, denn ich übernehme KEINERLEI Haftung für die links und deren möglichen Folgen!

Das Igellied: Der Text ist ziemlich passend, s.o. die Warnung; die Vertonung – hm. Die Melodie ist nicht besonders eingängig. Andererseits, wenn man sich bereits auf der anderen Seite von Knieweich befindet…

Ah, Terry Pratchett – or Pterry – and his fans…

We know Nanny Ogg likes to sing the Hedgehog song and “A Wizards Staff has a Knob on the End”. But what the heck are the texts for these? Pterry didn´t write them down on purpose. At least we know that Granny dislikes them on principle. Just like any songs that mention maypoles or likewise innocent stuff .

Well, we fans are not up to being held back by such trivia and so you can find  now on the web several versions  by fans which give texts and even musical versions.

WARNING: The lyrics could be considered a bit explicit by some people, especially the Hedgehog Song!! Whoever has a problem with that: Click on links at your own peril as I won´t be held responsible for  the links, their content or anything that might happen from them!!

The Hedgehog Song: I won´t comment on the text , heed the warning above; the melody is not  very  catchy, on  the other hand,  if  you are already on the other side of some scrumble…
