Das Februar Baby Jäckchen aus Elisabeth Zimmermanns Almanac  hat´s mir ja schon länger angetan.  Nicht für ein Baby, sondern für mich. War aber immer zu beschäftigt mit anderen Dingen um die Anleitung für mich anzupassen. Jetzt habe ich zu meinem grossen Entzücken festgestellt, dass mir flint knits diese Arbeit abgenommen hat: Unter  February  Lady gibts  das ganze in Erwachsenengrösse und zwar kostenlos einschliesslich Fotos.

Da ich im Februar Geburtstag habe, wäre das doch das perfekte Projekt für diesen Monat. Bleibt nur die Frage, welche Wolle. Eigentlich würd ich gern was aus dem Stash verwende.  Was neues kaufen wäre angesichts eines Geburtstagsprojektes (mehr oder weniger) auch zu rechtfertigen, aber bisher hat mich weder aus dem Stash noch sonstwoher ein passendes Garn angesprungen.

I´ve been in love with the February Baby Sweater from Elisabeth Zimmermanns Almanac for quite some time now. Not for any baby, but for me. But I was always way too busy to make an up-sizing of the pattern to grown-up size. Now I found to my delight that flint knits has done the work for me already: February Lady is in grown up size and for free . Including great photos.

As my birthday is in February, this should be the perfect project. Now I just have to figure out which wool I would like to use. I´d rather like to use something from the stash. As it is a birthday project (more or less) buying something new also feels o.k. Unfortunately nothing has really felt right up to now neither from the stash  nor something new.

Aus dem Glitzer-Kupfer-Designer-Garn von neulich und dem Brazilia Garn aus dem Stash. Einfach 2 re 2 li und dann mit einigen Reihen Brazilia Fransengarn als Abschluss. Zwischen Daumen und restlichen Fingern je 3 Maschen zusammengestrickt, schnell, praktisch, schön. Sind natürlich nicht so warm und kuschelig wie Woll-Stulpen, aber naja, man kann nicht immer alles haben. Glanz und Wärme waren schon immer häufig schwer vereinbar.

Finished some days ago – Wrist Warmes with Fun Fur Borders and some Sparkle. Simply knit 2, purl 2 and add some of the fun fur from the stash. Fun Fur as it was meant to be Knit together 3 stitches between the thumb and the rest of the fingers, so the thing stays comfortably up. Fast, practical, beautiful. Of course, they are not as warm and comfy as wool wrist warmers would be, but, well, you can´t have everything all the time… Glamour and warmth always were very uneasy  companions.

Nachdem das BVG jetzt zugunsten der Pendler in Sachen Pendlerpauschale entschieden und die Kürzung zurück genommen hat, habe ich gleich einen Teil der zu erwartenden Erstattung in die Yul-Einkäufe gesteckt. In dieser Zeit der Finanzkrise sollte man ja was für die Konjunktur tun  (*hüstel, Rationalisierung such*). Auch wenn das Geld erst in 2 oder 3 Monaten auf meinem Konto eintrudelt,  geb ichs ausnahmsweise JETZT SCHON aus.

Ein Spiel und ein Paar Signature Needles sind bestellt (muss wohl Intuition gewesen sein, die Bestellung ging 18 h vorher raus, EHE das BVG das Urteil verkündete).

Und Wolle von der Woll-Lust in Berlin – nach 3 Tagen (!) war die Bestellung bei mir, und das in der Vorweihnachtszeit. Ein Hoch auf Paypal und den Zeitgewinn beim Bezahlen. Dass meine Bankdaten damit nicht wild und willenlos in der Gegend verteilt werden, ist ein weiterer Vorteil.

Also, was hab ich mir geholt?

• 500 gr naturschwarzes glänzendes Alpaca – 333 m/100 gr

• 50 gr dunkelblaues Alpaca von Artesano Alpaca (ohne Foto)
• Eigentlich sind die beiden Garne für ein neues Projekt verplant. Aber vielleicht ein bisschen zu dunkel das Blau… mal sehen. Das Alpaca ist auch etwas luxuriöser als meine üblichen Garne (meistens eher robuste Naturschafrassen; aber das musste einfach auch mal sein – ein bisschen Nerven streicheln nach dem üblichen Bürostress. Derzeit bin ich wirklich froh, dass mein Kopf angewachsen ist, sonst würde ich ihn manchmal nicht mehr finden).

• 100 gr Designer Sockengarn SchokoHerz mit glänzenden Kupfer-Effekten

Dieses Garn wird mit braunem Brazilia Fransgarn aus dem Stash kombiniert – dann hab ich wenigstens hier etwas zum Stash Abbau getan.

The Federal Constitutional Court in Germany / Bundesverfassungsgericht has given its decision concerning a change in taxes regarding commuters. Since 2007  the German government had cut tax advantages for people commuting long distances to work every day. This week, the  Bundesverfassungsgericht pronounced that this is not in accordance with the tax laws. So the government has to pay back taxes to commuters. How´s that for X-mas!

Even if the money the state owes me now will probably not arrive before next March, I´ll spend some now (against my usual conviction of not spending money I not already have). In times like these – read: Financial Crisis – it´s a national duty of spending and helping the economy along (*desperatly looking for excuses*).

Granted, I ordered my dpns and a pair of straights at Signature Needles Art about 18 hours BEFORE the court gave its verdict, but that´s got to be intuition. And some wool from Woll-Lust in Berlin. The package arrived 3 days after I placed the order! And that in pre-X-mas time, when the postal service is notoriously strained.

So, what did I get?

Something unusually luxurious for me:

• 500 gr of natural black luscious Alpaca – 333 m/100 gr (380  yards/4 oz)
• 50 gr dark blue Alpaca from Artesano Alpaca (no photo)
• 100 gr Designer Sock Yarn in Chocolate Brown with coppery reflexes

The black and blue Alpaca were planned to go together in a new project. Maybe the blue is just a bit too dark. Well´s see… the material is a bit more luxurious than my usual yarns – mostly robust old sheep races. Considering the really stressful situation at the office at the moment, I needed something to soothe my nerves. Sometimes I´m really thankful, my head is firmly anchored to my neck, otherwise I´d be in real danger of forgetting it somewhere.

The coppery yarn will go together with some brown Brazilia fluffy yarn from the stash;  so I got a really good excuse for buying it.

Das Egtved Shirt Projekt steht immer noch an.

Hatte ja schon vor über einem Jahr HIER geplant, das Oberteil der jungen Frau von Egtved nachzustricken, die vor ca. 3.300 Jahren in Jütland/Dänemark begraben wurde. Natürlich ist das Original gewebt und nicht gestrickt, deshalb Interpretation, statt Rekonstruktion.

Bisher blieb es bei den Plänen… Elizabeth Zimmerman hat den Schnitt in ihrem Bog Jacket umgesetzt, mir liegt mehr daran, die Optik zu rekonstruieren. Foto gefällig? Dänisches Nationalmuseeum, bis zur Mitte scrollen.

Als Material nehme ich die vor ca. 3 1/2 Jahren in Xanten beim Römerfest erstandene Wolle – spinnradgesponnen, wenn auch nicht von mir. Schafrasse? Keine Ahnung, aber aufgrund der Farbe wohl eher kein Merino. Bei der Lagerzeit im Stash zähl ich das unter Stash Reduzierung.

Bisher habe ich die Ã?rmel fast fertig:

Dass ich nicht einfach von einem Ã?rmel zum anderen quer stricke, hat seinen Grund – leider bei der Konstruktion was übersehen. Auch wenn´s im Original nicht so ist – ich hätte gerne einen leicht taillierten Schnitt (hey, das ist MEIN Pullover, da brauch ich mich an keine Anleitung, Original etc. halten).

Deswegen könnte ich jetzt:

a) die Ã?rmel wieder aufribbeln (will ich nicht) oder

b) den Schnitt komplizierter gestalten (darauf wirds wohl raus laufen).

The Egtved Shirt Project is still on…

It´s been well over a year that I had the idea of recreating the shirt from the grave of the young woman of Egtved (Jutland/Denmark), who was buried about 3.300 years ago.  Of course, the shirt was woven, not knitted, but I´m after the look of it. Elizabeth Zimmerman has used the pattern in her “Bog Jacket”, the look she creates is rather different, however. I bought the wool about three and a half years ago in Xanten, at a Roman Reenactment event. It´s been spun on a wheel, but not by me. I´ve no idea which sort of sheep it came from, but judging from the color I don´t think it´s merino. So, I get some stash busting as well

Up to now I reached the sleeves (photos above).

If anyone is wondering why I don´t simply knit from one sleeve to the other in one piece – the reason is, I blundered in creating the pattern. Knitting from sleeve to sleeve doesn´t allow for knitting a fitted waist. Even if the original hasn´t got one, this is my pattern, so I´m going to create one.

As far as I can see, there are two ways of getting around to that:

a) frogging the sleeves completely (and I don´t want to do that)

b) creating a more complicated solution (that´s what it´s going to be).

Details:

• gestrickt freihand ohne Anleitung
• kraus rechts
• angestrickter I-Cord-Abschluss für die Kanten und Taschen
• beim Stricken eingearbeitete Taschen
• Zopf am Rücken über 2 x 6 Maschen
• V-Ausschnitt
• Material: online erstandene Schurwolle aus der Hohen Tatra in dunkelgrün, Nadel 5,0
• Verbrauch ziemlich genau 650 gr
• Länge: 80cm, Breite 69 cm.

Die Wolle ist in der Tat etwas, hm, “robust” bzw. “hat Charakter” (ich weigere mich, das “kratzig” zu nennen, kratzig sind Scheuerpads für verkrustete Kochtöpfe ). Auf blanke Haut würde ich die Weste nicht anziehen wollen, aber dafür ist sie ja auch nicht gedacht.
