Witz für Strickerinnen: trifft Novelty Fransengarn auf kitschige Weihnachten…

heraus kommt: ein gestrickter Weihnachtsbaum (Anleitung nur auf englisch aber allein das Bild lohnt anschauen *lol*)

Ich hab da auch noch (wohl in einem Anfall von Wahnsinn gekauft) mehrere Knäuel Brazilia Lame in Gold rum liegen… Auf Ravelry hat jemand eine Weihnachtsbaumgirlande aus eben diesem Garn gestrickt – so genial wie einfach aus I-Cord. Was E.Z. wohl dazu gesagt hätte… (erstens zum Garn selbst und zweitens zu der Idee es so zu verwenden)     .

Also, I have several balls of Brazilia Lame gold in my stash… must have bought these in a moment of madness… on Ravelry someone has done a Christmas Tree Garland with just that yarn – as simple as effective with I-Cord. Wonder, what E.Z. would have said to that… (first the yarn itself and second the idea of using it)     .

Was strickiges: Mein Phoenix-Pullover macht diesmal RICHTIG Fortschritte – Ärmel und Rücken fertig, Vorderteil in Arbeit, wie man sieht. Das Pink ist übrigens nur Kontrastfaden vom provisorischen Anschlag und kein Designeffekt.

Der Halsausschnitt wird allerdings nicht wie im Original SO aussehen, sondern eine etwas andere Lösung bekommen.

Ich habe mir nochmal 100 gr der Wolle vom  Coburger Fuchsschaf vom Finkhof (naturfarbene Wolle einer alten Schafrasse) nachbestellt – eigentlich hätte es auch ohne reichen sollen. Aber 1 Knäuel der (gut abgelagerten) Bestände ist heller. Entweder ist das keine Fuchsschafwolle (glaub ich aber nicht) oder ein anderer Jahrgang, der deutlich heller ausgefallen ist (relativ realistische Theorie, da ich in den vergangenen Jahren diese Wolle mehr als einmal bestellt habe – stash lässt herzlich grüssen . Vielleicht liegt es auch am Alter der Tiere, da die Wollfarbe sich mit den Jahren verändert. Zumindest die Neulieferung ist farblich passend und das eine Knäuel krieg ich auch irgendwie unter, vielleicht ein Rundschal, irgendwann.

Diese Schafrasse ist übrigens inzwischen so selten, dass sie teilweise sogar im Zoo (!) gehalten wird, z.B. in Köln. O tempora o mores…

Something knitterly: My Phoenix Sweater in progress – sleeves and back are knitted and the front is under construction, as you can see. The pink yarn is not part of the design but contrast yarn from the provisional cast on.

The neck however will not be knitted LIKE THIS as in the original, but with some variation.

I ordered another 100 gr / 4 oz of the Coburger Fuchsschaf Wool from Finkhof (a natural colored wool from an old sheep breed). The skeins should have been sufficient even withou this one. But one skein in the stash (well aged stash I might add) has a somehow lighter color. Either it´s no Fuchsschaf Wool (but I don´t think so) or it`s from a different year as I´ve ordered this wool more than once during the last years. Heartily greetings from the stash . Maybe it´s due to the age of the sheep as the color of the wool changes as they grow. At least the new skein color blends perfectly with the rest and the single skein should also find a project,  a cowl perhaps, sometimes.

This robust old breed almost disappeared and is so rare, right now that it is even kept in the zoo (!), for example in Cologne. O tempora o mores…

Also gut – ich bin stur. Nochmal ein Anlauf.

• Phoenix II – Versuch des Neustrickens 2 x abgebrochen
• Phoenix III – neuer Anlauf in Finkhof Fuchsschafwolle aus dem Woll-Vorrat und mit Nadelstärke 3,25.

Aus den Erfahrungen von Phönix I hab ich ja gelernt – diesmal mit provisorischem Anschlag. Dann kann ich mir noch eine Ärmelvariante aussuchen und wenn irgendwann die Bündchen wieder durch sind, lässt es sich leicht reparieren.

• Phoenix I – was felted by accident in the washing machine – a picture (before that unfortunate incident) can be found 2 postings earlier under “Vindolanda”
• Phoenix II – attempt to re-knit aborted 2 times
• Phoenix III – new try with Finkhof Fuchsschafwolle from the stash and needles 3,25.

To get gauge, I started a sleeve.

From the experience with the first Phoenix Sweater I learned something. So I started with a provisional cast on. So I don´t have to decide for a sleeve variant right now and when sometimes the cuffs are worn through it will be easier to repair.

Neues Projekt- in neon pinkfarbener Kauni Wolle (aus dem Stash!!); der Truly Tasha´s Shawl (freie Anleitung von Wooly West in Englisch). So einfach wie genial, mit hübscher Lace-Kante. Soweit bin ich derzeit:

Im Original ist die Farbe neon kreisch pink – lässt sich einfach nicht ordentlich fotografieren, nicht mal im Tageslicht. Um die Sache ein bisschen interessanter zu machen (bisher sind´s ja nur endlose Reihe in kraus rechts), strick ich noch Rocailles in Farbe Crystal ein (durchsichtig, mit Blattsilbereinlage).

Got a new project in Kauni, colorway neon pink (and from the stash!!) – the Truly Tasha´s Shawl (it´s a free pattern from Wooly West). As simple as it is great, with a very becoming lace border. The photo shows how far I have got up to now.

In the original, the color is really VERY neon pink – impossible to capture correctly,  not even in daylight. To spice up the knitting a bit (it´s just lots and lots of garter stitch up to now), I´m adding rocailles in “crystal” from colorless glass, with inlay of silver foil.

Inspiration für die February Lady – nachdem ich diverse Möglichkeiten an Wolle überlegt und verworfen habe (u. a. das 6fädige Trekking von Zitron in Pink meliert – Foto hier), hab ich mich zum Stash Abbau entschieden.  Noch einen Vorrat von der guten Bio-Finkhof Wolle dünn in Naturweiss gefunden (300 m / 100 gr) für das echte Wollgefühl ohne Kunstharz aus der Superwash-Ausrüstung. Und da es was farbiges sein sollte (das Wintergrau geht mir sowas von auf den Keks inzwischen) hab ich noch die Kool Aid und Lebensmittelfarbevorräte durchsucht – voila:

Lebensmittelfarbe Erdbeerrot, 1 x Kool Aid Cherry, 1 x Kool Aid Pink Lemon

Eigentlich wollte ich ein meliertes Prinzessinnen Pink beim Färben erreichen. Da hätte ich wohl einige Päckchen mehr an Pink Lemon benötigt.

Als ich das hier im Topf sah, fiel mir spontan (unreifes) Erdbeerfeld ein. Und Strawberry Fields von den Beatles 

Das hier war nach dem Färben – alle Farbpartikel aus dem Wasser gesaugt, wie man sieht

Na dann – Erdbeerfeld statt Prinzessinnen Pink – diese Knöpfe hab ich dann bei Maschenkunst in Köln dafür gefunden:

Hm. Oder doch lieber die hellgrüne Peppermint Patty verwenden, die ich in einem früheren Versuch gefärbt habe? Da passen dann die Knöpfe auch zu

Inspiration for my February Lady – after I thought about and dismissed several ideas (among these was the new thicker Trekking sock yarn in pink by Zitron – pictured here) I decided to go for stash busting, searched and found some Finkhof organic wool in natural cream white. This is the real wool feeling – unhampered by synthetic resin from superwash treatment. And in order to get some color (I´m so heartily sick of winter´s grey) I rummaged through the Kool Aid and food color stacks. Found one sachet  Kool aid of Pink Lemonade, one of  Red Cherry and some plain red food color (named “strawberry”).

Actually I hoped to get a shaded princess pink from the dyeing. Seems I would have needed a couple more sachets of Pink Lemon for that.

When I saw how the wool turned out in the dyeing pot, I spontanously thought of (not quite ripe) Strawberry Fields – and the Beatles song too As seen in the other picture, every last particle of color was sucked out of the water.

Oh well – if it is to be Strawberry Fields instead of Princess Pink, I might as well go with it. The light green buttons I found at Maschenkunst in Cologne.

Don´t they look a bit like the little leaves on a strawberry?

Of course I could also use the light green Peppermint Patty I got in an earlier attempt with Kool Aid – the buttons would fit in as well with this wool
