Mit Lace hab ich mich bisher noch nie angefreundet.

Bei dem Pretty as a Peacock Muster konnte ich allerdings nicht nein sagen. Widerstand war zwecklos.

Es ist einfach nur fantastisch pfauenhaft.

Die Frage nach der Wolle für das Projekt gestaltete sich allerdings etwas schwierig. Die Kauni in Neonpink aus dem Stash kam mir in den Sinn…

Mein Schatz meinte auf meine Frage, in was er sich das Teil denn vorstellen könnte (Bild unter Nase halt), “irgendwas in Blaugrün”, “Pfauen in Pink gibts nicht” und “musst Du Dir halt neue Wolle kaufen, schweres Schicksal ”

Kommentar am Rand (nicht nur dazu aber auch):

• Ja, der ist vergeben, aber sowas von!
• Nein, den geb ich nicht mehr her!!
• Nein, er hat keine Bruder und geklont wird er auch nicht!!!

So ganz war ich nicht überzeugt, dass die Pink Kauni nicht passt (aber vielleicht für die February Lady), aber ein wenig Internet schauen geht immer, dachte ich.

Seide ist ja an sich auch nicht mein Ding – aber hierfür wäre Seidenglanz schon gut.

Das hab ich gefunden bei der Wolllust:

Zephyr Lace 50 % Merino 50 % Seide in Farbe – ich glaubs ja nicht – Pfau/Peacock

Und noch genau 2 Stränge da (also genau die Menge, die ich brauche).

O.k. Ich geb mich geschlagen.

Lace was not a favorite of mine until now.

The Pretty as a Peacock Pattern did me in, however. Resistance was futile.

It just evokes fabulously the impresson of a peacock.

Choosing a yarn for this project was a bit difficult however. I thought about the Kauni in neon pink from the stash…

Hubby-to-be (just a week left) told me after I asked him what he could imagine this project in: “use something blue green”, “there ARE NO pink peacocks” and “well, if there´s nothing in your stash that fits you´ve got to buy some new yarn – life is hard, you know  ”

My comments to this (not only to this but it´s a good occasion for it):

• Yes, I know he´s a Keeper and he´s mine!
• No, I won´t ever let go of him!!
• Sorry folks, he hasn´t got a brother and he won´t be cloned either!!!

I wasn´t really convinced that the Pink Kauni is the wrong choice (but maybe I could use it for the February Lady Sweater). Nevertheless I decided to look around a bit in the www.

Silk usually is not what I choose to work with but for this shawl some silk sheen would be nice I think.

That´s what hit me at the Wolllust:

Zephyr Lace 50 % Merino 50 % Silk in colorway – I can´t believe this – Peacock

And only 2 skeins left – just the amount I need.

O.k. Ich declare myself beaten.

Inspiration für die February Lady – nachdem ich diverse Möglichkeiten an Wolle überlegt und verworfen habe (u. a. das 6fädige Trekking von Zitron in Pink meliert – Foto hier), hab ich mich zum Stash Abbau entschieden.  Noch einen Vorrat von der guten Bio-Finkhof Wolle dünn in Naturweiss gefunden (300 m / 100 gr) für das echte Wollgefühl ohne Kunstharz aus der Superwash-Ausrüstung. Und da es was farbiges sein sollte (das Wintergrau geht mir sowas von auf den Keks inzwischen) hab ich noch die Kool Aid und Lebensmittelfarbevorräte durchsucht – voila:

Lebensmittelfarbe Erdbeerrot, 1 x Kool Aid Cherry, 1 x Kool Aid Pink Lemon

Eigentlich wollte ich ein meliertes Prinzessinnen Pink beim Färben erreichen. Da hätte ich wohl einige Päckchen mehr an Pink Lemon benötigt.

Als ich das hier im Topf sah, fiel mir spontan (unreifes) Erdbeerfeld ein. Und Strawberry Fields von den Beatles 

Das hier war nach dem Färben – alle Farbpartikel aus dem Wasser gesaugt, wie man sieht

Na dann – Erdbeerfeld statt Prinzessinnen Pink – diese Knöpfe hab ich dann bei Maschenkunst in Köln dafür gefunden:

Wirken doch ein bisschen wie die kleinen Blättchen an Erdbeeren

Hm. Oder doch lieber die hellgrüne Peppermint Patty verwenden, die ich in einem früheren Versuch gefärbt habe? Da passen dann die Knöpfe auch zu

Inspiration for my February Lady – after I thought about and dismissed several ideas (among these was the new thicker Trekking sock yarn in pink by Zitron – pictured here) I decided to go for stash busting, searched and found some Finkhof organic wool in natural cream white. This is the real wool feeling – unhampered by synthetic resin from superwash treatment. And in order to get some color (I´m so heartily sick of winter´s grey) I rummaged through the Kool Aid and food color stacks. Found one sachet  Kool aid of Pink Lemonade, one of  Red Cherry and some plain red food color (named “strawberry”).

Actually I hoped to get a shaded princess pink from the dyeing. Seems I would have needed a couple more sachets of Pink Lemon for that.

When I saw how the wool turned out in the dyeing pot, I spontanously thought of (not quite ripe) Strawberry Fields – and the Beatles song too As seen in the other picture, every last particle of color was sucked out of the water.

Oh well – if it is to be Strawberry Fields instead of Princess Pink, I might as well go with it. The light green buttons I found at Maschenkunst in Cologne.

Don´t they look a bit like the little leaves on a strawberry?

Of course I could also use the light green Peppermint Patty I got in an earlier attempt with Kool Aid – the buttons would fit in as well with this wool

Das Februar Baby Jäckchen aus Elisabeth Zimmermanns Almanac  hat´s mir ja schon länger angetan.  Nicht für ein Baby, sondern für mich. War aber immer zu beschäftigt mit anderen Dingen um die Anleitung für mich anzupassen. Jetzt habe ich zu meinem grossen Entzücken festgestellt, dass mir flint knits diese Arbeit abgenommen hat: Unter  February  Lady gibts  das ganze in Erwachsenengrösse und zwar kostenlos einschliesslich Fotos.

Da ich im Februar Geburtstag habe, wäre das doch das perfekte Projekt für diesen Monat. Bleibt nur die Frage, welche Wolle. Eigentlich würd ich gern was aus dem Stash verwende.  Was neues kaufen wäre angesichts eines Geburtstagsprojektes (mehr oder weniger) auch zu rechtfertigen, aber bisher hat mich weder aus dem Stash noch sonstwoher ein passendes Garn angesprungen.

I´ve been in love with the February Baby Sweater from Elisabeth Zimmermanns Almanac for quite some time now. Not for any baby, but for me. But I was always way too busy to make an up-sizing of the pattern to grown-up size. Now I found to my delight that flint knits has done the work for me already: February Lady is in grown up size and for free . Including great photos.

As my birthday is in February, this should be the perfect project. Now I just have to figure out which wool I would like to use. I´d rather like to use something from the stash. As it is a birthday project (more or less) buying something new also feels o.k. Unfortunately nothing has really felt right up to now neither from the stash  nor something new.

Waiting for inspiration.

Jetzt sind sie da, meine Signature Stricknadeln – 26 Tage nach der Bestellung in USA. Da zwischenzeitlich noch Weihnachten und Neujahr war, betrug die tatsächliche Lieferzeit nur 3 Wochen von USA nach Deutschland. Und sie sind – einfach nur WOW! Dat is, wie wennste fliechst

Am ehesten lässt sich das wohl noch vergleichen, wenn man von einem durchschnittlichen Kleinwagen in einen Mercedes umsteigt. Elegant, liegen perfekt in der Hand, die Maschen gleiten flüssig (aber man kann die Socke tatsächlich in die Hand nehmen und wild schütteln, da rutscht keine Nadel raus), Material ist mittelstarkes Aluminium in medizinischer Qualität lt. Auskunft des Herstellers .  Kurz gesagt, egal wie begeistert sich eine Strickerin über ihre Signature Needles äussert, glaubt es. Jedes Wort. Das war meine erste Bestellung bei denen (ausser den tollen Nadeln gibt es einen sehr freundlichen und guten Service) aber bestimmt nicht die letzte auch wenn die Dinger ein Mehrfaches von dem kosten, was man für “normale” Nadeln ausgibt.

P.S. Nachdem ich heute noch erfahren habe, was derzeit Nadelspiele aus Ebenholz kosten, bin ich mit den Signature Needles gar nicht mehr so teuer – vor allem wenn ich einkalkulieren, dass die Bruchgefahr gegen Null geht, was ich von den Ebenholznadeln, die ich ausprobiert habe wirklich nicht sagen kann.

Now they have arrived, my Signature Needles – 26 days after I ordered. Not counting the x-mas and new year holidays, total delivery time was more like 3 weeks form the US to Germany – wow! And the needles are just marvellous! Click on the pictures to enlarge – but click on your own peril!

The nearest comparison would probably be if you changed cars from a compact car to a Mercedes. They are sleek, elegant, a joy to touch, stitches glide fluently (but you can really take your sock in progress and shake it wildly – no dpn will slip out, I tried!), they are made of medical aluminium according to the manufacturer. In short, whatever praise you hear frome some knitter about her Signature Needles – believe it. This was my first order but for sure not the last one. Maybe, if I order this weekend, they will arrive in time for my birthday an the beginning of february.

P.S. After I found out today what the current price for a needle set in ebony wood is, I think the Signature Needles are not so expensive at all – especially taking into account the risk of breaking a needle which is practically zero for the Signature ones whereas I had snapped ebony ones.

Aus dem Glitzer-Kupfer-Designer-Garn von neulich und dem Brazilia Garn aus dem Stash. Einfach 2 re 2 li und dann mit einigen Reihen Brazilia Fransengarn als Abschluss. Zwischen Daumen und restlichen Fingern je 3 Maschen zusammengestrickt, schnell, praktisch, schön. Sind natürlich nicht so warm und kuschelig wie Woll-Stulpen, aber naja, man kann nicht immer alles haben. Glanz und Wärme waren schon immer häufig schwer vereinbar.

Finished some days ago – Wrist Warmes with Fun Fur Borders and some Sparkle. Simply knit 2, purl 2 and add some of the fun fur from the stash. Fun Fur as it was meant to be Knit together 3 stitches between the thumb and the rest of the fingers, so the thing stays comfortably up. Fast, practical, beautiful. Of course, they are not as warm and comfy as wool wrist warmers would be, but, well, you can´t have everything all the time… Glamour and warmth always were very uneasy  companions.
