Das hier ist der letzte Teil der Ernte aus der Gartensaison 2010. Die letzte Aubergine und die halbreife Pepperoni sind für die Gartenkobolde. Damit erkläre ich die Ernte für dieses Jahr als beendet, der Grossteil war sowieso Erfahrung . Nächstes Jahr dann  auf ein Neues.

This is the last part of the harvest from the garden season 2010. The last eggplant and the half ripe pepperoni are our due to the garden kobolds. So I declare the harvest season as finished for this year. The largest part was experience anyway. Next season, next try. 

Oh Göttin der Küche – da lief doch eben tatsächlich ein Werbespot für Pasta. Im Kochbeutel. Pasta im Kochbeutel?! Ja, Pasta im Kochbeutel… Durch Wiederholen des Begriffs wird er nicht besser für mich.

Ich meine, was soll das? Kochen muss man sie immer noch. Ich kann Instant Gerichte verstehen – heisses Wasser drauf, umrühren, 3 min warten, fertig ist eine schnelle Zwischenmahlzeit. Nichts für die Dauerernährung aber manchmal sinnvoll.

O.k., die Dinger sind in 3 min fertig – aber wenn ich Nudeln koche brauche ich auch länger als 3 min um die Sosse anzurühren. Wenn die Nudeln dann halt 10 min brauchen statt drei ist das egal. Und die vorgegebene Portionsgrösse? Na toll, ein weiterer Schritt in Richtung Einheitsnormkonsument. Liebe Hersteller, ich habe manchmal mehr Hunger und manchmal weniger und für meinen Mann gilt das gleiche. Ich bin immer noch an soviel Konsumfreiheit interessiert, dass ich meine Portionsgrösse selbst bestimmen mag und ob ich nun zwei, drei oder vier  Handvoll Nudeln aus dem Glas nehme und in den Topf werfe pro Portion.

Ich glaub heute Abend gibts Spaghetti Carbonara oder mit hausgemachter Tomaten-Frischkäse-Sosse (mit Frischkäse und Ketchup, ich bin ja nicht prinzipiell gegen Produkte, die einem das Küchenleben leichter machen), aber ganz bestimmt nicht mit Nudeln aus dem Kochbeutel. Never. Ever.

Oh Goddess of the Kitchen  – there was a TV commercial for Boil in Bag Pasta. Boil in Bag Pasta?! Yup, Boil in Bag Pasta. IMO the concept does not get better with repeating the word.

I mean, what’s the use of it? You still have to cook it. I understand the use of instant noodles – add hot water, stir, wait 3 minutes and there you go eating. Not something to mainly base your eating on, but sometimes useful.

These boil in the bag thingies are ready within 3 minutes but when I cook pasta I need a bit more time to whip up a sauce. Suppose, the pasta takes 10 min, o.k. They are on the 2nd cooking plate anyway.  And the predetermined serving size? Oh great, just another step towards the standardized uniform consumer. Duh. Dear producers, sometimes I am more hungry than at other times and the same goes for my husband. I like my consumer freedom to throw in two, three or four handful of pasta in the boiling water per serving

I think, tonight calls for Spaghetti Carbonara or Pasta with homemade Tomato Cream Cheese Sauce (with fresh cream cheese and ketchup, I am not against convenience products on principle). But I won’t be using Boil in the Bag Pasta. Never. Ever.

Vor drei Jahren hat mich meine langjährige Lieblingstasse aus der Boardhouse Mill verlassen. Inzwischen hat die Mühle sogar eine Website und der Name wurde wieder zu Barony Mills geändert.

Scheint, als hätte sich jetzt eine Nachfolgerin eingefunden, auf dem Mittelaltermarkt zu Lutra (Kaiserslautern):

Was die Symbolik angeht: Auf dem ersten Becher ist ein Pferd  – mit Sonne – solares Symbol, ganz  klar. Das Motiv auf dem zweiten? Meerjungfrau? Nymphe? Auf alle Fälle Wasser. Klar soweit. Sind das nur die Haare oben auf Ihrem Kopf oder doch ein Diadem/Krone? Keltische Flechtmuster im Haar? Ich liebe diese vieldeutigen Motive.

Three years ago my Boardhouse Mill Cup left me. I’ve had it for about 20 years and bought it on my fist trip alone abroad up in the Orkneys. Sigh. In the meantime, the mill has got a web-site and the name has been changed back to  Barony Mills.

Seems I found a worthy replacement on the Medieval Fair this year at Lutra (Kaiserslautern). The beaker has a beautiful sister, which also had to come with me.

Considering the motives on the ceramic, the fist beaker has a horse – with sun – solar symbol, no question about that. The second beaker – mermaid? Water Nymph? Water, anyway, clear as mud. But is that only hair up on her head or rather a diadem or a crown? Celtic ornaments in Her hair? I just love this ambiguous motives.

Dieser Winter war echt nervtötend, grau und viel zu lang  – aber letztendlich ist doch Mitte April endlich mal Frühling geworden!

This winter was really pesky, drab grey and loooong -  but finally spring arrived in the middle of April!

Ab nächster Woche sollen die Temperaturen wenigstens über 0 Grad steigen. Dann gibts hoffentlich statt Schneemassen und grauem Himmel mehr blauen Himmel und Schneeglöckchen.

Seems, the end of winter is near. Up to now there was a lot of snow – on the trees, in the garden, plus snowed-in deck chairs, icicles and, occasionally, a bit of blue sky. Starting with next week, the weather forecast says, temperatures will rise above 0 degrees C / 32 degrees F. Hopefully, instead of masses of snow and grey skies there will be more blue skies and snowdrops at last.
