heraus kommt: ein gestrickter Weihnachtsbaum (Anleitung nur auf englisch aber allein das Bild lohnt anschauen *lol*)

Ich hab da auch noch (wohl in einem Anfall von Wahnsinn gekauft) mehrere Knäuel Brazilia Lame in Gold rum liegen… Auf Ravelry hat jemand eine Weihnachtsbaumgirlande aus eben diesem Garn gestrickt – so genial wie einfach aus I-Cord. Was E.Z. wohl dazu gesagt hätte… (erstens zum Garn selbst und zweitens zu der Idee es so zu verwenden)     .

Also, I have several balls of Brazilia Lame gold in my stash… must have bought these in a moment of madness… on Ravelry someone has done a Christmas Tree Garland with just that yarn – as simple as effective with I-Cord. Wonder, what E.Z. would have said to that… (first the yarn itself and second the idea of using it)     .

Heute soll wohl der heisseste Tag in diesem Jahr werden.

Ein Kaminofen in Terracotta Design.

Am heissesten Tag des Jahres. Hossa.

Nun ja, die Temperaturen werden wohl wieder fallen…

Jetzt brauchen wir noch das Ofenrohr zum Anschliessen an den Kamin und den Kaminkehrer, der das ganze abnimmt; dann können wir im Winter damit zumindest teilweise CO2-neutral heizen. Und irgendwo habe ich mal den Satz gelesen: “Ein wenig Strahlungswärme gehört zur artgerechten Menschenhaltung!” Wie wahr.

Über den Kraftakt, dieses Teil (und die Dinger sind SCHWER) die Treppe hoch und ins Wohnzimmer zu schaffen, schweig ich mich aus. Dazu hat mein Schatz wahrscheinlich ein paar – heftige – Worte zu sagen.

Ein grosses Dankeschön an alle Gäste unserer Hochzeit, die mit ihrer Fütterung unseres Sparschafes und der Schatzkiste den Ofen finanziert haben. Ich finde auch die Symbolik sehr schön, einen Ofen als Hochzeitsgeschenk zu haben.

Today the weather forecast says it will be the hottest day in this year.

Yesterday our wood burning stove was delivered.

Yup.

A wood burning stove in terracotta design delivered in the mid of August at the hottest time of the year. Yeah.

Well, temperatures are bound to go down again…

Concerning the struggle to get that thing (and they ARE HEAVY) up the stairs and into the living room I´d rather be silent. I suppose hubby will have to say some more – rather drastic – words about that.

Now we need to buy the stove pipe to connect the stove to the chimney and the chimney sweeper to approve it (here in Germany you have to have the official approval of the chimney sweeper for correct installation, otherwise you are not allowed to have a fire in the stove on account of the fire protection requirements). And then at least part of our heating will be CO2-neutral.

Somewhere I found the saying: “A bit of radiant heat is part of adequate human housing!” How true .

And a very big “Thank you!” to all the guests at our wedding, who by feeding our sheepy bank and treasure chest collected enough money for the stove. I also like very much the symbolism of having a stove for a wedding present.

Neulich bei e*ay erstanden für nicht mal eine Handvoll Euro incl. Versand:

Sieht ein bisschen aus wie ein Hockey Puck, ist aber ein Badewannenstöpsel.

Ein beleuchteter Badewannenstöpsel mit LEDs :

Man kann ihn entweder auf dem Wasser schwimmen lassen oder den Abfluss damit zustöpseln, so dass das Licht diffus vom unteren Ende der Badewanne scheint. Sehr hübsch, wie ich finde.

Falls jetzt jemand fragt, ob das Ding einen echten Nutzen gegenüber einem herkömmlichen Badewannenstöpsel hat und und ob man´s wirklich braucht – nö, braucht man nicht wirklich, ist aber nett und macht einfach Spass. Das reicht doch als Existenzberechtigung wahrlich aus, finde ich . Schönen Sonntag noch!

Bought at e*ay some days ago for less than a handfull of bucks, including postage – it´s a bathtub plug, even if it looks a bit like a hockey puck. BUT: It´s got LEDs in it, so it glows!

You can either let it float on the water or plug the drain with it, so you get a red shine from under the water. Really nice effect, I think. I like it very much .

If anyone asks, if that thing really has an effect in addition to a normal bathtub plug and if one REALLY needs this – no, you don´t, it´s just nice and fun. In my opinion that´s a real good right to exist . Have a nice Sunday and maybe a bath!

Die Schöne von hinten (immerhin schön genug um mit der Liebesgöttin Aphrodite selbst verglichen zu werden – dass schon damals aus dem Wer-ist-die-Schönste-Wettbewerb durch  Paris mit seinem Urteil der Trojanische Krieg, also nur Blödsinn rauskam, sei am Rande erwähnt). Nun ja, Eris, die Göttin der Zwietracht wusste wohl was sie tat als Sie den goldenen Apfel in die Preisrunde warf.

Jetzt muss ich mal sehen, was ich mit etwas Farbe auf dieser Figur noch zaubern kann.

There ´s a new One in my house.

A replica of a statue of the Roman Goddess Juno from the 2nd century C.E. , bought at the Forum Traiani (the internet shop) . She stands about 21 cm / 8 inches tall and I took photos from front and back – as the story goes, Paris had to judge which one of the Goddesses was the most beautiful – so She is beautiful enough to stand in comparison with Aphrodite. Well, from this Miss-Greek-Goddess-Contest resulted the Trojan War, so nothing good at all – I suppose, Eris the Goddess of Strife knew very well what She did when casting that golden apple as price for the most beautiful Goddess.

The oil lamp in front is also from the Forum Traiani and they sell it even without proof of age – you can click  to embiggen, but the picture is rather clear, so you´ve been warned 

And my next project is to find out what I can do with a bit of color on this statue.

Wie vermehren sich Rhododendren eigentlich?! Irgendwie scheint der ganze Ort hier mit Mengen von Büschen in dieser Farbschattierung voll zu sein.

Anyone knows how rhododendron multiplies? Somehow the hole village seems abloom with bushes in this peculiar color shade.
